OLOMOUC IN TWO SHADES
The Church of our Lady of Snows
One of the most prominent buildings in Olomouc. The portal of the church and balustrade were built by Václav Render (1669-1733), the statues of the saints were created by David Zürn (1665-1724), a sculptor from Olomouc. The statues on the front gable are centered by the Virgin Mary, on her right St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, and on her left the statute of his colleague, St. Francis Xavier. The church was built in 1712-1719 in the place of the former Minorite monastery and was designed by Michael Klein. As a Jesuit building, it is a free adaptation of the church Il Gesu in Rome. The façade and the statues were restored from 1994-1996.
