OLOMOUC IN TWO SHADES

The Přemyslid (Bishop) Palace

The Bishop’s Palace, originally a late Romanesque castle reconstructed after a fire in 1204, was built in the place of a large 11th century castle of the Přemyslid dynasty. Parts of it are still extant today. The first floor has paired Romanesque windows with rich ornamentation. The Gothic rib vault corridor around the courtyard and Gothic chapel of John the Baptist were built in the 14th century. The palace was open to the public after large-scale renovation and conservation lasting from 1970-1988. It was listed as a national heritage monument in 1962.
